Linguini Fini does lunch reservations which saves you the scramble for a table during lunch hour. And since they belong to the ihm group, which also launched the local organic produce online store Homegrown Foods, their steaks are mostly grass-fed and they try to get their organic veggies from local sources.
Another small perk is that they don't add the usual 10% service charge but leave it up to you how much you actually want to tip.
It's a good place to go when you already have your Paleo diet dialled in and are not much tempted by pizza, pasta and Italian desserts. The only reason why it was safe for a me, a weakly willed Paleo pup, to go there was because I am gluten intolerant, so I'm (mostly) used to staying away from that stuff anyway.
So here is what I came for: The Executive 3-Course Lunch for HKD 198
- 1 choice of Antipasti: Insalata Mista (which is a proper bowl serving. Not silly rice bowl excuse of a salad)
- 1 choice of Pasta or Secondi: I went for their 8 oz. cast iron charred hanger steak (but you can also get crispy "quick smoked" salmon or lardo roasted chicken)
- 1 choice of Dessert
I asked the waiter if I could have two salads instead of one dessert. He hesitated as if to reconfirm with himself that this female who ordered her steak "medium-raw" (did not have the meat vocabulary down by then) really wanted to skip dessert. But he quickly snapped out of it and replied: "Sure, no problem." Few minutes later he came back just to make sure: "Sorry, you want your steak medium-rare and TWO salads." "Yup." I grinned and returned the untouched bread basked to him. I am German after all and within every German lurks a bread addict. Better safe than gluten infested.
A friend who was about to witness my face-off with my first steak warned me that hanger steaks are quite lean and can be a bit chewy. Well, I had 2 bowls of fresh leafy greens in good quality EVOO if I wanted to give my jaws a break.
When I spotted the main dish being brought to our table I bit felt like I was on a blind date. But there was no reason to worry, I got a flavourful and juicy piece of meat. At the beginning I thought the beef taste would need some getting used to, but me and that steak got along perfectly. After a short while the waiter passed by and enquired if everything was ok. "It's great." I proclaimed while enthusiastically waving a forked piece of meat at him. There was one happy puppy.
